The Peony (mu dan) is a flower motif from Peranakan Porcelain, signifying Spring and Beauty. When drawn in a group with butterflies they represent abundance of prosperity. Here, the patterns are drawn in blue white inspired from the Ming style. The card is suitable for expressing congratulations and lunar new year. The chinese character Fú (福) means good luck.
Illustrated by Kate Teng
Kate Teng is an artist-architect based in Penang, Malaysia who sometimes walks the old streets in town for a dose of nostalgia. Kate creates works in watercolour through her observations of the old town and curiousity for forgotten places. This recording of old buildings in the form of paintings serves as an act of `conservation’ on paper and restoring the memories of these places which were once so familiar.
